Due to the current economic situation, many Americans are stuffing their money under their mattresses at night. But some are still motivated to make money and even start their own businesses.

Evan Savaria, an 18-year-old student at Germanna Community College, started his own business, Esgames4u, in 2006. Savaria didn't scoop this grand company from his parents--he truly started it on his own.

Esgames4u was built "to produce high-quality computers with excellent service that exceeds the expectations of consumers," said Savaria. He added, "[C]ustomers were not getting the quality and service they deserved from computer retailers."

By having his own business, Savaria has been able to gain experience as a self-sufficient entrepreneur.

"I make enough money to expand my business and maintain highly competitive pricing," he said.

Though he may sound unlike most teenagers, Savaria is your typical young man in many ways. He likes to shop, he has friends and a girlfriend.

Currently, Savaria is in college and learning more to improve his business. After school, he "plan[s] on running a successful corporation with 100-plus employees."

At 18, Savaria is happy to already have a path for his future. While running his own business as a young adult can be very time-consuming, he said that it was, nevertheless, enjoyable.

Even though America is going through a hard time, Savaria doesn't seem to be too worried. He stated that his company is "still obtaining new customers pretty regularly."

Savaria plans to keep his business going for many years to come. And to other young entrepreneurs, he offered this advice: "Stick with what you are good at and never give up your dreams."

Stephanie Boscovitch is a junior at Riverbend High School.
